One hundred years of Švejk: tranformation of the critical reception of Jaroslav Hašek's novel

This thesis deals with one century of Czech critical reflection on Jaroslav Hašek's novel The Good Soldier Švejk, i.e. the period from the publication of the first volume in 1921 to 2021. Using reviews in the press, literary critical polemics, selected literary and scientific studies and relevant articles we follow the transformation of the critical discourse about the mentioned novel. The mutual coherence of the viewed sources is ensured by the emphasis on intratextuality, the overview character of the work is complemented by references to other works. This work then not only collects individual texts in the form of bibliographic records and recapitulations of key theses, but also places them in a cultural, historical or social context using interpretive blocks. Using interpretations, we create a narrative culminating in the conclusion when we report on the evolution of the work's critical reception. After its publication, the book is accepted by a wide readership, but literary criticism ignores it with only few exceptions. The work saw rehabilitation in the second half of the 20s of the 20th century thanks to the critical polemics of the time. Since then, the novel has undergone several revisions - in the 1930s it was interpreted as a proletarian novel, during the Second World War it was banned...
"Normalization" view on the cinema: Jan Kliment and "Rudé právo" 1971-1973

This study is based on reviewing Jan Kliment's journalism in the context of wide social, cultural and political conditions of the so-called Normalization in Czechoslovakia. Jan Kliment was an exponent of the communist regime journalism, specialized on cultural events. The sample of his articles published in the Rude Pravo newspapers between years 1971 and 1973 illustrates the time-influenced (or biased) approach to reviewing both Czechoslovakian and foreign motion pictures. The study is trying to summarize and to describe the film criticism lineament under the ideological power of the Communist Party in the times of Normalization, actually in the beginning seventies. The text includes (apart from the presentation of Kliment's movie pictures reviews) a brief introduction to the history of the Czechoslovakian leftist film criticism, general facts about the Czechoslovakian media landscape in the era of the so-called Prague Spring and the subsequent Normalization and information about Kliment's career.
Critical evaluation of taping methods with focus on its effects

Title: Critical evaluation of taping methods with focus on its effects. Objectives: Purpose of this diploma thesis is critical evaluation of taping methods with concentration on its effects. Evaluation, comparison of contradictory statements and obtained information will be done based on a study and analysis of literature and scientific studies regarding taping methods and its efficiencies. On this base, final conclusions about real efficiency of taping will be made. Methods: In this diploma thesis, which is a critical review, document studies method will be used, along with analysis of professional scientific sources and their comparison. Results: The sport tapes (solid and elastic) and the kinesio tapes may participate on the possible mechanisms of the taping method effect. The various kinds of the tapes are different in the consequences of its effects. For lack of good scientific studies we can not clearly objectify the method of the taping. Cultural events in exile magazine Svedectvi in 70 ś and 80's of the 20th century

This paper charts the events in the field of literary criticism in the magazine Svědectví. This magazine was important exile journal where exile, dissidents, writers, politicians, scientists, publicists have contributed to, and that is why it maintained its high quality for decades. It was founded on the 26th of October 1956 in New York, but has been published in Paris since 1961. Pavel Tigrid was a leading figure in the magazine for the entirety of its publication, and piece of this paper focuses on him. Close insight can be found about the structure, sections and the content of the magazine including the contributors. A comparative analysis is used to research the approach and the standard of literary criticism in magazine Svěděctví, and in other journals. Reviews examined in this paper are about these literary reces. (Milan Kundera's 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being', Vaclav Havel's 'Redevelopment' and Jan Pelc's '… a bude hůř). These journals were used compare other reviews - Tvar, Tvorba, Host, Lidové noviny a Obrys. The goal of this paper is to compare of reviews in in the magazine Svědectví and in other journals.
A critical review of Facebook addiction research

Background: Facebook is the most popular social network nowadays. Concerns about possible negative consequences and possible addiction rise with its growing popularity. It is a very current topic not only for experts in the field, but also for parents. Results of studies bring various conclusions and the view on the Facebook addiction remains patchy. Aim: The aim of this work is to describe and evaluate the current state of Facebook addiction research on chosen studies. This work is focused on the criteria for diagnosis, methodology and identified risk features, the profile of a problematic user. Methods: This theoretical work uses qualitative approach and compares information from chosen studies. First, a summary was created from each study. Then extracted information were compared in categories according to research question of this work. Results: Evaluation of the studies showed that there is no clear way of diagnosing Facebook addiction and the phenomena itself is not clearly defined. The studies were very different in their prevalence estimates. A methodological issue of most of the chosen studies was using a self-reported questionnaire and a choice of non-representative participants. The reception of Jan Pelc's novel ... a bude hůř during various political regimes

In the content of this bachelor thesis is ecamining the reception of Jan Pelc's novel …a bude hůř by Czech readers during various political regimes. In case of pre-revolutionary acceptance, there are evaluated reactions of readers in exile and in the independent domestic structures. The analysis of arguments for such acceptance are mentioned.
